  • You must have an active StartGlobal account with a company structured as a partnership.
  • Have the following information ready: general business details (EIN, principal business activity, fiscal year), partner details for each partner (name, SSN/ITIN, ownership and profit-sharing percentages), states where your partnership conducts business (state nexus), details about US business activities, any relevant supporting documents, and tax compliance history.
  • Navigate to Accounting in your dashboard sidebar and ensure you are on the Federal Tax tab.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Open the Form 1065 questionnaire.

    What to do: On the Federal Tax tab, locate the prompt or button to complete the partnership tax questionnaire for the current tax year. Click it.

    A modal opens with the title "Partnership Tax Information ({year})" and a description explaining that this form collects details for the Form 1065 partnership return.

  2. Complete the General Information section.

    What to do: Fill in all fields related to your partnership's general business details, including business activity type, fiscal year dates, and other foundational information.

    Form fields for your partnership's basic operational and financial details.

  3. Complete the Partner Information section.

    What to do: Enter details for each partner, including their name, tax identification number (SSN or ITIN), ownership percentage, and profit/loss sharing ratio.

  4. Complete the State Nexus section.

    What to do: Identify all US states where your partnership has a business presence, employees, property, or generates revenue.

  7. Complete the Tax Compliance section.

    What to do: Click Complete Later to save your progress without submitting.

    The modal closes. Your partially completed answers are saved for you to return to later.

  11. Cancel without saving (optional).

    What to do: Click Cancel to close the modal without saving any changes.

    What you will see

    The modal closes and no data is saved.

What Happens Next

  • After submission, your tax preparation team reviews the partnership information alongside your bookkeeping records to prepare the Form 1065 return and individual K-1 schedules for each partner.
  • Your Federal Tax timeline will update as the filing moves through each stage.
  • If clarification is needed, the status badge will change to "Needs Attention".

"Submit" button is disabled

One or more required fields are incomplete. Review each section for empty or highlighted fields.

Partner information section does not allow adding more partners

Ensure you have completed the fields for the current partner before adding another.

Documents fail to upload

Check the file format and size. Try using PDF format and ensure the file is not corrupted.

Previously saved progress is missing

Confirm you clicked Complete Later (not Cancel) when you last exited. If data is still missing, re-enter the information.
