Filing Annual Reports

Overview

Most states require businesses to file an Annual Report each year to maintain good standing. The Annual Report confirms your business information with the state and typically involves a filing fee. StartGlobal handles the filing process on your behalf once you submit the required payment and information through the portal.

  • Your business formation must be complete with an active compliance dashboard.
  • You must be logged in to the StartGlobal client portal.
  • Have a valid payment method (credit or debit card) ready.
  • Verify that your business information (address, members, registered agent) is current before filing.

1. Navigate to the Compliance Dashboard

  1. What to do: Click "Compliance" in the left sidebar navigation.

  2. What you will see

    Your Business Status Card at the top with the compliance tabs below.

2. Open the Annual Report Tab

  1. What to do: Click the "Annual Report" tab.

  2. What you will see

    The Annual Report section showing your current filing obligation. If a report is due, you will see a card titled "{State} Annual Report {Year}" with the filing fee, a "Due in X Day(s)" badge in orange, and a description: "Annual Report is an annual filing requirement that must be submitted to the state."

3. Review the Filing Details

  1. What to do: Read through the card to understand the amount due and the deadline.

  2. What you will see

    The filing fee amount, the due date, and any penalty information if the deadline has passed. Overdue filings display a red Penalty badge with the additional penalty amount.

4. Check for Penalties (If Overdue)

  1. What to do: If a penalty is shown, review the penalty breakdown.

  2. What you will see

    A message explaining the penalty structure for your state, for example: "Penalty for non-payment in {State} is $200 penalty + 1.5% interest charged monthly." A caution notice warns: "If you don't pay your Annual Report for two years, your LLC will be canceled in the State. Reinstatement will cost you an additional $500."

5. Mark as Filed Outside StartGlobal (Optional)

  1. What to do: If you filed your Annual Report directly with the state, check the box labeled "I've already made this payment outside StartGlobal".

  2. What you will see

    A file upload field appears for you to upload your State Annual Report Confirmation document.

6. Submit Payment for StartGlobal to File on Your Behalf

  1. What to do: If you want StartGlobal to handle the filing, click the payment button and complete the payment form.

  2. What you will see

    A secure payment form. After successful payment, a confirmation message appears.

7. Monitor the Filing Progress

  1. What to do: After payment, return to the Annual Report tab to check the filing status.

  2. What you will see

    A Filing Progress Card with the badge "Filing In Progress", the title "We are currently Reviewing your Documents", the service type badge "State Annual Report", and an estimated processing time of 48 Hours.

What Happens Next

  • StartGlobal will prepare and submit your Annual Report to the state on your behalf.
  • The filing typically takes up to 48 hours to process.
  • Once the state accepts the filing, your Annual Report service status will update to VALID on the Business Status Card.
  • You will be able to download the filed confirmation document from the compliance dashboard.

Frequently Asked Questions

Troubleshooting

No Annual Report card appears on the dashboard.

Your first Annual Report may not be due until the year following your formation. Check the Compliance Summary tab for upcoming dates.

The filing status has been "In Progress" for more than 48 hours.

Processing times can occasionally extend due to state processing delays. If it exceeds 72 hours, contact StartGlobal support.

I uploaded the wrong confirmation document.

Contact StartGlobal support to have the document replaced.

My Annual Report status still shows "DUE SOON" after payment.

The status updates once the filing is accepted by the state, not immediately after payment. Allow up to 48 hours for the status to change.
