Renewing Your Registered Agent
Overview
A Registered Agent is a legal requirement for every business formed in the United States. Your Registered Agent receives official government correspondence, legal notices, and tax documents on behalf of your company. This guide explains how to renew your Registered Agent service through StartGlobal before it expires to keep your business in good standing.
Before You Begin
- Your business formation must be complete and you must have an active Registered Agent service through StartGlobal.
- You must be logged in to the StartGlobal client portal.
- Have a valid payment method (credit or debit card) ready for the renewal fee.
- Check your compliance dashboard to verify the renewal due date so you can plan ahead.
1. Navigate to the Compliance Dashboard
-
What to do: Click "Compliance" in the left sidebar navigation.
- What you will see
Your Business Status Card at the top. Check the Registered Agent service status badge -- if it shows "DUE SOON", renewal is approaching.
2. Open the Registered Agent Tab
-
What to do: Click the "Registered Agent" tab.
- What you will see
The Registered Agent Card displaying your current service details, the renewal amount, the due date badge, and any penalty information if the renewal is overdue.
3. Review the Renewal Details
-
What to do: Read through the renewal amount and due date displayed on the card.
- What you will see
The annual renewal fee, the date by which the renewal must be completed, and a "Due in X Day(s)" badge in orange if the date is approaching. If overdue, penalty details will be displayed.
4. Review Penalty Information (If Overdue)
-
What to do: If your renewal is past due, review the penalty notice.
- What you will see
Information about late fees and the consequences of allowing your Registered Agent service to lapse. Without an active Registered Agent, your business risks losing good standing with the state.
5. Submit the Renewal Payment
-
What to do: Click the payment button to proceed with the renewal.
- What you will see
A secure payment form. Enter your card details and confirm the payment.
6. Confirm the Renewal
-
What to do: Review the confirmation screen after payment.
- What you will see
A success message confirming your Registered Agent service has been renewed for the next year. The service status badge on your Business Status Card will update to VALID.
What Happens Next
- Once your payment is processed, your Registered Agent service is immediately renewed.
- The Registered Agent status on your Business Status Card will update to VALID.
- StartGlobal will continue to serve as your Registered Agent, receiving and forwarding any legal or government correspondence to you.
- You will be notified when the next renewal period approaches.
