Tracking Your EIN Application

Overview

Your Employer Identification Number (EIN) is a unique nine-digit number assigned by the IRS to identify your business for tax purposes. StartGlobal handles the EIN application process on your behalf, which involves signing a form, faxing it to the IRS, and following up until your EIN is issued. This guide explains how to track each stage and complete any required actions.

Before You Begin

  • The State Filing step must be completed (shown with a green checkmark).
  • You must be logged in to your StartGlobal dashboard at app.startglobal.co.
  • You will need access to your email to receive the signature request.

1. Navigate to the EIN Step

  1. What to do: From the sidebar, click "HOME", then locate the formation progress stepper and click on the "Business EIN" step.

  2. What you will see

    The EIN step will be highlighted in blue if it is your current step. Previous steps (Registered Agent and State Filing) will show green checkmarks.

2. Understand the EIN Application Views

Your EIN application will display one of the following views:

Not Started (NoWorkflow)

  1. What to do: Click the "Continue" button to initiate the EIN application process.

  2. What you will see

    An introductory screen explaining the EIN application process.

Signature Required (NeedSignature)

  1. What to do: Click the "Sign Form" button. This will open an external link where you can review and electronically sign the required IRS form.

  2. What you will see

    A prompt explaining that your signature is needed before the application can proceed. The "Sign Form" button will open a new browser tab with the signing interface.

In Progress (Processing)

  1. What to do: Review the current task status. No action is needed from you at this stage.

  2. What you will see

    A progress view showing which task is currently active. Tasks proceed in this order:

    • Sign Form -- Your signed form has been received.
    • Fax to IRS -- The signed form is being faxed to the IRS.
    • Follow-up Fax -- A follow-up has been sent to the IRS to expedite processing.

Completed

  1. What to do: Review and save your EIN for your records.

  2. What you will see

    Your official EIN number displayed on screen. You will be able to use this number for tax filings, bank account applications, and other business activities.

Error

  1. What to do: Review the error details and contact support if needed.

  2. What you will see

    A notification explaining what went wrong during the EIN application process.

3. Sign the Required Form

  1. What to do: When you see the NeedSignature view, click the "Sign Form" button.

  2. What you will see

    A new browser tab will open with the document signing interface. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete your electronic signature.

  3. What to do: After signing, return to the StartGlobal dashboard.

  4. What you will see

    The status will update to Processing, and the application will proceed automatically.

What Happens Next

  • Once your EIN is issued by the IRS, the Business EIN step will show a green checkmark.
  • The Bank Account step will become your current step (highlighted in blue), allowing you to proceed with opening a business bank account.
  • Your EIN will also appear in your action items or documents section for easy reference.

Troubleshooting

Business EIN step is grayed out

The State Filing step must be completed first. Verify it shows a green checkmark.

Sign Form button does not open anything

Check that your browser is not blocking pop-ups. Allow pop-ups for app.startglobal.co and try again.

Signed the form but status has not updated

Allow a few minutes for the system to detect your signature. Refresh the page. If it still shows NeedSignature, contact support.

Processing stage has not progressed for several days

IRS processing times vary. If it has been more than 10 business days, contact support for a status update.

Error status displayed

Review the error details and create a support ticket for assistance.
