Adding Responsible Party Details
Overview
The Responsible Party is the individual designated as the primary legal compliance contact for your LLC. This person is identified to the IRS and is responsible for receiving official correspondence on behalf of the company. In this step, you provide the Responsible Party's personal details, address, identification documents, and declare whether they are also an owner of the LLC.
Before You Begin
- You must have completed the Company Information step.
- Have the Responsible Party's full legal name, residential address, and contact information ready.
- Have the Responsible Party's SSN (Social Security Number) or ITIN (Individual Taxpayer Identification Number), if applicable.
- Have a digital copy of the Responsible Party's government-issued ID (passport or national ID card) in .pdf, .jpg, .jpeg, or .png format, no larger than 10 MB.
Step-by-Step Instructions

Review the Responsible Party description.
Read the information at the top of the form to understand the role of the Responsible Party.
What you will seeA page titled "Responsible Party" with a subtitle explaining that this person serves as the legal compliance contact for the LLC.

Enter the Responsible Party's name.
Type the Responsible Party's legal first name and last name in the corresponding fields.
What you will seeTwo required text fields labeled First name and Last name.

Provide SSN or ITIN (if applicable).
If the Responsible Party has a U.S. Social Security Number, enter it in the SSN field. If they have an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number instead, check the ITIN checkbox first, then enter the number.

Verify phone and email.
Review the pre-filled phone number and email address. These fields are read-only and are pulled from your account information.

Enter the street address.
Type the Responsible Party's full residential street address in the Street address field.

Confirm the country and select the state.
The Country field is pre-set and disabled. Select the appropriate State from the dropdown.

Enter city and ZIP code.
Type the city and ZIP/postal code in the corresponding fields.

Upload an identity document.
Click the ID Proof Upload area to select a file, or drag and drop a file onto the upload area. The file must be a passport or government-issued ID.
What you will seeA file upload area that accepts .pdf, .jpg, .jpeg, and .png files with a maximum size of 10 MB. After uploading, the file name and size will be displayed.

Declare ownership status.
If the Responsible Party is also an owner (member) of the LLC, check the checkbox labeled "I am an owner (member) of this LLC".
What you will seeA checkbox with the ownership declaration. If checked, the Responsible Party will also appear in the Member Details step as one of the LLC owners.

Continue to the next step.
Click the "Continue" button. Click "Go Back" if you need to return to the Company Information step.
What you will seeIf all required fields are valid, you will advance to the Member Details step. If any fields are incomplete or invalid, error messages will appear next to the affected fields.
What Happens Next
- You will proceed to the Member Details step, where you provide information about all owners of the LLC.
- If you checked the ownership declaration checkbox, the Responsible Party's information will be pre-populated as one of the members.
- You can add additional owners in the next step.
