Choosing the right state for your LLC formation is the first and one of the most important decisions in the process. StartGlobal recommends Wyoming as the default state, but you can select from all available U.S. states depending on your business needs. Your selection determines the legal jurisdiction, tax obligations, and annual compliance requirements for your LLC.

- Have a general understanding of where you plan to operate your business.
- Consider factors such as state taxes, annual fees, and legal protections when choosing a state.
Step-by-Step Instructions

Navigate to the formation flow.
After logging in, you will be directed to the onboarding process. The first screen is the state selection page titled "Choose the State to Register your LLC".

Review the recommended state.
Read the information presented under the "RECOMMENDED STATE" badge. Wyoming is recommended by default.
What you will seeA description explaining why Wyoming is recommended -- lower annual operating costs, flexibility, no corporate income tax, and no annual franchise tax.

Review the Delaware option.
Scroll down to see the Delaware option if it is displayed.
What you will seeA description noting Delaware's business-friendly laws, Court of Chancery, and well-established legal precedents.

Browse additional states (optional).
Click the "SHOW MORE STATES" button to view all available states.
What you will seeA State Selection Dialog will open, listing all U.S. states. You can scroll through or search for a specific state.

Select your preferred state.
Click on the state you want to form your LLC in. If you are satisfied with Wyoming, you do not need to change anything.

Continue to the next step.
Click the "Continue" button.
What you will seeA confirmation toast message reading "Great choice! [StateName] has been set as your LLC formation state." You will then be taken to the optional products page.
What Happens Next
- After selecting your state, you will proceed to the optional products selection page where you can choose add-on services.
- Your selected state will be used throughout the formation process and will appear on your company information form.
